The Inspiration

A Perfectly Paired Corset

A Robert Graham sport jacket that Efrain purchased was what inspired this navy blue and gold, floral corset. His jacket is made of a silk blend, jacquard fabric with a navy blue base and gold pattern. I was so excited when I found a beautiful, luxury, brocade fabric with a navy blue and gold, floral design. I knew this was the perfect match for our outfits to coordinate together.

The Thought Behind The Design

A Perfectly Paired Corset

I added navy blue, faux leather and navy blue, velvet fabric so that the floral design in my corset wasn’t overwhelming. The velvet trim separating the fabrics between the panels and the velvet binding on the neckline & hemline helped tie all of these different fabrics together. I love how the design on the front of my corset gives the illusion of a smaller waistline and elongates my torso. I made sure to pattern-match the floral print in the brocade fabric so that when the corset is closed the print matches up. You’ll notice the floral print on the sides of the corset is also pattern-matched.

I lined my corset in navy blue, silk, duchesse satin. I also added boning in the lining because I didn’t want stitch lines through the brocade fabric distorting the beautiful, floral print. You can still get the same fit and benefits of the boning, I just placed them in a different way. This is a unique technique that I devised after years of wearing corsets.

The Full Look For Any Occassion

A Perfectly Paired Corset

I paired my corset with a long, pleated, gold skirt and navy blue, dress sandals. Although this style is appropriate for a formal event, I always design my corsets so that they can also be styled with a variety of denim, cute skirts, shorts and pants for a more casual look. The possibilities are endless which means this corset can be worn for so many different occasions!
