The Making of a Corset

The Elegant Process

The Making of a Corset

Do you ever wonder what actually goes on behind the scenes in designing and creating a custom corset? From the ideas, drawings, inspirations, and projections come the designs. Follow along to discover the process of creation.

A custom corset is a piece of wearable art constructed to fit your body’s measurements. I create original pieces, unique to the person who will be wearing it. No pattern is ever repeated because no two bodies are the same.

The Eye of Appreciation

The Making of a Corset

The design process starts with my client’s vision of how she will confidently carry herself. The ultimate goal in wearing a Champagne Corset is for her to feel effortlessly chic and elegant in silhouette. I feel my best in a beautiful corset and I want other women to feel the same way.

When inspiration strikes and creativity reigns there are no limits. I dive deep into the design corners of the world to find colors, materials, textures, and charisma in the most unexpected ways. Whether it’s a boldly printed pattern on the outside, more subtle approaches to trims and details, new shapes, or fabric treatments on the inside lining, you can always count on Champagne Corsets to present originality with an eye for an appreciation of wearable art.

I sketch my ideas and begin draping material on my mannequin. It is important to use material similar to what will be used for the final piece. What I envisioned in my initial sketch may end up changing because some fabrics drape better than others and some shapes work well with particular fabrics. From there, a pattern is drafted and a sample (or mockup) is created. I fit countless samples on the wearer to decide the final measurements. It can take anywhere from 2-5 fittings per corset to finalize the perfect fit. The final trims and fabrics are meticulously sourced from around the world and every sample and corset is carefully and thoughtfully handcrafted in my design studio in Connecticut.

It’s really thrilling to see what started off as pencil marks on paper transform into a beautiful corset. But, even more rewarding is when I see my client style and make the corset her own.

The photo above shows a mock up being specifically fitted for one of our clients. The image to the left is a sketch including measurements, shape, and the front and back view of a corset. Sketches are crucial in the corset making process because it allows us to show the client our initial ideas and allows the client to share her input as well.
