Corset VS Bustier

What’s the difference between a Corset and a Bustier?

Corset VS Bustier

Although corsets and bustiers look similar to the untrained eye, they are completely different garments, designed and constructed very differently and with completely different purposes. An easy way to remember the difference between the two is a corset “cinches” while a bustier “boosts”.

The Corset

Corset VS Bustier

We specialize in bespoke corsets, a restrictive garment designed to contour and shape the torso and bust. There are two types of corset styles: overbust corsets and underbust corsets.
Corsets create a sleek silhouette and a defined waistline. They are usually extended over the hips for that hourglass curve. They are made from rigid fabric and steel boning, a metal busk closure in the front and held closed with high-quality lacing in the back with metal grommets and tied at the waistline. As you pull the laces tighter your waist becomes smaller and more defined. Corsets are much more expensive and made-to-last years to come.

The Bustier

Corset VS Bustier

Bustiers make your chest look more “uplifted” while smoothing your midriff.
They are designed with built-in bra cups and are typically shorter, sitting above the hips or ending at the waist. They are less confining to wear because they are made from flexible and stretch fabrics and constructed with plastic boning, which won’t wear as well as steel boning and are not meant to be worn every day. They have a hook and eye back closure, are mass-produced and available in all price ranges. They don’t deliver the same waist-cinching ability of a true corset.

The choice to wear a corset or bustier is entirely up to you and depends on the look you want to achieve and event you have planned. We are always happy to help guide you with the appropriate garment for your needs.
