Cruella Inspired Corset

Opposites Attract

This black and white corset is your style passport to steal the spotlight. The contrast between black and white enhances and flatters your figure for a truly irresistible silhouette.

When I started designing the idea for this corset, the remake of the Disney movie, Cruella, was coming out, and I loved the idea of making a half black and half white corset like Cruella’s hair. Then I decided to make each side completely different with a design of its own. The result? A one-of-a-kind corset, exclusive to Champagne Corsets, with a special story to tell.

Black Side

Opposites Attract

The black side features a cargo cotton canvas fabric that has a textured weave and a brushed finish for an incredibly soft and smooth feel. I lined the entire side with 100% horsehair fabric to help add stability and body. In between the panels, I sewed two different decorative and beaded trims. I also hand beaded black, individual crystals, beads, and stones from the center front around to the back of the corset. I created a swirl-like design with the beading to emphasize the shape of the hourglass silhouette of the corset.

Luxury Detailing

Opposites Attract

On the neckline, I hand sewed four black 16” coque rooster tail feathers that are long and sturdy but not too stiff. I also added clusters of black goose feathers approximately 5”- 7” long. I hand glued individual silver Swarovski crystals in groups of 5 per goose feather to add a bit of shine and separation to the feathers. Lastly, I hand sewed a beautiful, vintage brooch below the bust area separating the beading from the feathers.

Creating Balance

Opposites Attract

Hackle feathers, the feathers that surround the neck of a rooster, were hand sewn along the hemline of the corset that really helped to accentuate the hip curve. I also used the same feathers on the armhole of the black satin glove.

I used a black busk for the center front closure on both sides because I have yet to see a white busk in the market.

Tie It All Together

What Inspires You?

Grommets and washers are in black on the black side and white on the white side. I also decided to use black lace-up cording, but this can easily be interchanged with any preferred color.

White Side

Opposites Attract

The white side features a cotton canvas fabric that is incredibly soft, smooth, and has a textured weave. I lined the entire side with 100% horsehair fabric to help add stability and body. In between the panels, I sewed two different decorative and beaded trims. I also hand beaded white, individual crystals, beads, and stones down the two center front panels. I used the largest beads at the top to give the illusion of a fuller bustline, and as your eye goes down, the beads get smaller and smaller. This helps give the illusion of a smaller waistline while elongating the torso.

Matching Feathers

Opposites Attract

Snow white marabou turkey fluff feathers that are approximately 5” – 7” long were hand sewn on top of rooster coque tail feathers that both wrapped around the hemline to help accentuate the hip curve. The marabou feathers were also sewn around the armhole of the white satin glove.

Fashion Beyond Perception

Opposites Attract

Lining fabric may seem like a small detail, but it’s more than just a functional addition, it’s a fashion statement! You can see how I used this reversible brocade leopard fabric so that each side has the opposite colorway. I also lined it with 100% horsehair fabric to help add stability and body.
